luxury prices to get pinched? dana cowin is editor and chief of "food and wine." thank you so much for joining us. we have so much stuff to go throu through. tell us what's first behind the fact that lobster prices have really come down quite a bit and the impact that that has had on the consumer industry. this guy wants to travel, okay? he just scares me for a second. >> comes from maine and wants to go back home, i think. >> he's on the move. so how come lobster prices have gone down so much? >> lobster prices have gone down because there's a lot of lobster but that actually is a good thing. it means that the traps have been maintained sustainably. >> even though lobster prices have come down because there's a glut of lobsters, it not being passed on to the consumers. still very expensive to order a lobster dish. what's the infrastructure that makes menu prices different? >> well, the infrastructure would be did you buy the lobster whole, right, because then you had -- the way that it got to you, it took a long trip. just like this little lively good. >> they're all on the move.

women's apparel. dana tulsi and courtney reagan join us this morning. good morning to both of you. >> good morning. >> dana, it's been said when the retailer who has shirtless models has trouble bringing in young women, there's a problem. what is going on? >> i think it's a broader problem than just abercrombie. the teen environment this year for back to school can't comp the color denim of last year and doesn't have enough newness in the tops business to drive traffic. while traffic is weak, the month of july was also very sluggish, too. we're going to need the rest of august and september in order to sell through these products. but products are a challenge and traffic is a challenge. >> court, some are arguing they just stuck with their old look for too long and that look is not as relevant as it used to be. >> and a lot of consumer surveys of these teen panels both out of piper jaffrays and jeffreys had a lot of teens saying abercrombie just isn't cool anymore. whats my little sister wears, i'm over it. they like names like urban outfitters, perhaps a company that many wouldn'

. >> dana what's the best and worst trades you can name right now when it comes to the position of the consumer related to retail stocks? >> i think some of the ones that look interesting, urban outfitters, up. i think the other ones out there that look very interesting, limited, look at limited and the earnings power that you have down the line with international with the pink area. victoria's secret is expanding in the u.s. and overseas. macy's, whether it's the weak of wow, private labels and exclusive, there is more to go with them. >> what can you tell us about the consumer? >> there isn't as much of a must have item this year as there was last year. the consumer is healthy but their wallet isn't growing so much to afford the discretionary items. there isn't a what do you want item out there. >> i'm trying to think of what i want. dana good to see you. twitter chatter increasing as ibm stock falls. shares hit a 52 week earlier today, down 15 percent. paul? >> we're negative on ibm. the stock was a former dow leader. there are issues surrounding the company's cloud business and che

at the intelligentelci advisory group. dana, where does the stock go from here? >> overall it needs to have results. it needs to have same-store sales. it's getting closer to flat than the negative 12% and they're going up against a negative 26% to negative 32% through the back half of the year. >> is this a positive development? is this a negative development? do you say there was going to be an overhang on the stock and the good news is they just cleared that overhang out in one fell swoop? or do you say to yourself, if he's willing to take a loss at this point, that's bad news for everybody? >> i think your first scenario's more likely. i think it was disruptive in terms of what was going on. you have to be able to get the company to some sort of level of stabilization. it was challenging to do that with the boardroom fights happening on main street. and now the holiday season is coming, the most important time of the year for the company. they're trying to get the home department fixed and focus and concentration is the key. >> courtney, the view inside jcpenney, they're happy t

dana telsy standing by and has more thoughts on this as well. we're just getting you on the phone. you're just hearing this news as we are. having watched what happened at jcpenney, is this a good development? >> the company needs stabilization. the key is getting through this back to school and christmas season in order to reinvigorate traffic, to bring people back in the stores, board room fights don't need to be played out on main driving sales should be the focus. anything that brings calm internally and externally is the right thing to do. >> what do you think about what jcpenney has in stores now. are they ready for the back to school season, will they be ready for the shopping season? >> i was just in chicago doing my shopping tour yesterday and they're ready for back to school, back to school signs are all over, traffic was a little bit better than we have seen there in the past. but the arizona jeans are out. and now it is getting the customers in the door. >> and just in terms of traffic, how does that match up with where jcpenney was a year ago and two years ago? >> a t

very hard to get on the back of it now. i'd like to see what dana tellsy has to say. it's been im pefr yus to tapes. gap just came out with comps that were disappointing but the stock is not selling after in the after market. that will be worth watching. the best way to play retail in some ways protect yourself and it's panned out is to be long master card or visa. regardless of what you think of the consumer the world is changing to benefit them. >> mike khouw you're looking at express and l brands formerly limited brands which owns victoria's secret and bath and body works. that stock hit a 52-week high and sold off today. >> express got hit and actually some people were pressing their bearish bets. we saw more put buying than anything else. araeo pos stall there was call buying in that name. what's interesting to me in these environments it seems like using options is a good way to make these puts. the premiums are so low. we continue to see the market pretty strong, that keeps the options premiums low and people are taking advantage of it. >> we have breaking news. let's go to head
